Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell has questioned the safety of the Qantas flights to war-torn Israel aimed at helping Australians leave the dangerous area. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced the flights on Tuesday afternoon. Three flights have been confirmed – with the first flight to leave Tel Aviv for London on Friday.

The second flight is scheduled for Sunday – with the third to depart next week but has yet to receive an official date. “The risk associated with this has been illustrated with a reported incident involving a British Airways flight overnight where there was shelling nearby with BA reportedly cancelling its flights in and out of Tel Aviv,” Mr Clennell said.“Dutch Airway KLM has cancelled flights.
“The government says it is monitoring the situation and its priority always being the safety of Australians.”
