Australia’s shadow Indigenous affairs minister has outlined the Coalition’s plans to audit funds being spent to assist Indigenous Australians.
Australians overwhelmingly rejected Labor’s Voice to Parliament proposal on Saturday, with over 60 per cent of the public voting No.
Senator Price, who along with Warren Mundine led the official Voice to Parliament No campaign, also detailed the Coalition’s plans to push for an audit the billions of dollars Australia spends each year on closing the gap. This funding included $6 billion on “Indigenous specific services” only available to Indigenous Australians, as well as $21.4 billion on the “mainstream services” such as Medicare and education funding, used by Indigenous Australians.
Warren Mundine has listed a series of changes governments must implement to address Indigenous disadvantage, arguing all Australians want to close the gap but are"sick and tired" of billions-of-dollars being spent without results.“When the when the government suggests that the ANAO are doing their job in terms of auditing; No, we want an inquiry so we can hear from those marginalized Indigenous Australians who are affected by the lack of outcomes.
