On Thursday at Dragonfly Golf Links, Mario Quenneville and Andre Kingsbury shot a blazing 8\u002Dunder at the Ottawa Sun Scramble.

The rules of the competition say the two-man scramble teams must have a scoring median between 92 and 99. So it can be a rollercoaster ride out on the golf course. Expectations are always high going in, of course, but that can change in a hurry. It’s about momentum, keeping drives in the fairway and sinking putts, lots of putts.

Schwartz won the C Division title at the Ottawa Citizen Championship, with a purpose in mind. A week before the tournament, his dad Bernie was diagnosed with cancer. It was more of the same Thursday, with the duo playing for the father. “We’ve played Rockland a few times,” said Godda. “It’s a positional course. We need to put the ball in play. We played well today, but it’s not over yet. We’re ready to go.”

Asked about their strategy, Ryan said: “Our strategy is the old guy tries to play safe and the young guy tries to go long. As long as I play safe, he can try to go big and that worked today.”Article content
