Under current legislation, sex workers must either work alone or at a licensed brothel recognised by the Prostitution Licensing Authority.Lulu said the proposed reforms would make her feel safer."Usually it means that I'm not working alone. "This licensing model at its core is a prohibition model which has prohibited 90 per cent of the industry including escort agencies, sex industry businesses, and sole traders who work together," she said.

In its submission to the committee, chief executive Bernie Hogan said it could impact more than 1,200 hotel and accommodation tourism businesses across the state.These law changes are about safety and removing the risk of corruption and could have happened years ago, writes Matt Eaton.

The reforms have faced significant delays, with the former state government initially promising to bring in the new legislation by the end of 2023."It's been a long campaign and very frustrating at times, but it's been worthwhile pushing through to get to this point," she said.
