“Alarming” low vaccination rates in Queensland show the state is at risk of outbreaks of children’s diseases including tetanus, measles, mumps, rubella and whooping cough.
Fewer parents are getting their children immunised for polio, tetanus, measles, mumps and rubella, a three-year study by Queensland Health shows.
“As vaccination rates fall, unvaccinated children will initially be protected from infection by the vaccinated children around them,” Gerrard warned. Chief Health Officer Dr John Gerrard says Queensland’s childhood vaccination rates are now below national health levels.Queensland’s vaccination levels are now lower – below 95 per cent – than the national vaccination standards for five-year-old and one-year-old children.The three-year Queensland Health study shows revealed a fall in the number of parents getting their children fully vaccinated against illnesses like polio, tetanus, measles, mumps and rubella.
