EQUIPE LAURENCE - The hydrothermal energy system installed at the new headquarters of Equipe Laurence in Sainte-Adèle, Que. has proved so efficient that a second building could run off the energy generated.
Equipe Laurence senior associate Vincent Bouré says the system is proving more efficient than hoped during its first 18 months of operation, with the firm confident that the projected seven- to eight-year return on investment will be realized. EQUIPE LAURENCE – The aerated sewage pond at the City of Sainte-Adèle water treatment plant is located 300 metres from the new offices of Equipe Laurence.
Equipe Laurence, a civil engineering firm, worked with long-time partners TLA Architectes and mechanical engineers BPA on the project. The partners believe using a sewage pond to generate energy to heat a nearby building has never been attempted in Canada. Bouré said Equipe Laurence challenged the firms to explore new solutions.
“Eighteen months later, it works very well,” he said. “We could also get a second building on the system.”
