Qualcomm first announced its first dedicated gaming chip, in the form of the Snapdragon G3x Gen 1, alongside the Razer
handheld. It looks like it has worked well enough for the chipmaker that the company has announced an entire range of chips to continue its gaming line of chips. In addition to the aforementioned Snapdragon G3x Gen 1, the line now also consists of the G1 Gen 1, G2 Gen 1 and the G3x Gen 2.
As Qualcomm itself calls it, the Snapdragon G1 is designed for fanless handheld gaming devices, and more specifically streaming handhelds. This chip focuses on smooth connectivity and battery life. The Gen 1 chipset specifically consists of an eight-core Kryo CPU and the Adreno A11 GPU.Moving up to the Qualcomm Snapdragon G2, this is instead made for all-rounder handhelds that do both streaming, as well as running games locally.
Finally, there’s the G3. As the naming convention so far would suggest, this is the flagship chipset of the line. The CPU for the Qualcomm Snapdragon G3x Gen 2 is unchanged, but the GPU this time is an Adreno A32 which the company claims makes it twice as fast as its predecessor. Snapdragon Sound support makes a return, as well as support for WiFi 7 in addition to 5G. And on that note, the company also has a Reference Design for the Qualcomm Snapdragon G3x Gen 2 that OEMs and ODMs can get.
