GATINEAU, QUE. – Forward Cam MacDonald and head coach Louis Robitaille’s return to Gatineau as members of the Cape Breton Eagles was successful on Thursday night.
MacDonald had a goal – which proved to be the game-winner – and an assist to help the Eagles down the Gatineau Olympiques 4-3 in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League in front of 2,574 fans at Centre Slush Puppie. The contest was Robitaille’s first against his former team after being let go by the club following the 2023 playoffs in which he guided the team to a semifinal appearance.Zach Biggar, Cam Squires and Olivier Houde also found the back of the net for the Eagles , who with the victory pushed their win streak to three straight games.
Jérémie Minville netted a pair of goals, while Ryan Del Monte scored his first career QMJHL goal for the Olympiques .The Eagles outshot the Olympiques 31-30 while going 2-for-4 on the power play. Gatineau was 1-for-6 on the man-advantage. Cape Breton will continue the three-game Quebec road swing on Saturday when they play the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies at 8 p.m. Atlantic time at Aréna Glencore.Jude Campbell , Luke McPhee , Lincoln Waugh and Jacob Newcombe were the scratches for Cape Breton, while Xavier Guillemette , Rayen Hache , Felix Ouellet , Tristan Luneau and Samuel Savoie were scratched for Gatineau.
