By the time the Olympic flame is lit at the Gabba in 2032, most Queenslanders are expected to live in Brisbane.
Queensland’s population is expected to grow by more than 16 per cent by the time Brisbane hosts the Olympic Games in 2032, new federal government data shows.
Growth was expected to slow slightly in 2032-33 to 1.3 per cent in Brisbane, compared to 1.2 per cent across the rest of Queensland. “During the pandemic we saw strong demand from people in Sydney and Melbourne looking to relocate, and that’s not likely to stop in years to come.Chalmers said while the pandemic had a significant and enduring impact on the Australian community and economy, there were signs that population growth was “bouncing back”.

Mother from Sydney amongst the victims of Qld helicopter crashA mother from Glenmore Park in Sydney's west, Vanessa Tadros, was onboard one of the helicopters that crashed in Queensland with her son who's been critically injured. The other deceased victims are the pilot and a couple from the UK. The family of the couple released a statement to Sky News saying they are ‘heartbroken and still trying to contact friends and family to let them know’.
