Two men have been charged after a Queensland police officer was allegedly struck over the head with a glass bottle while taking men into custody on the Sunshine Coast.

The 52-year-old and another police officer approached three men about 2.15pm at a Horton Parade shopping complex in Maroochydore on Friday after allegedly identifying one as being wanted for outstanding matters.It is alleged the officers were taking two of the men into custody when a 19-year-old Morayfield man struck the male officer over the head with a bottle.An off-duty officer and shopping centre security took the man into custody moments later.

Police will also allege an 18-year-old Nambour man violently resisted arrest by obstructing police, who deployed a taser and capsicum spray. The Morayfield man was charged with three counts of seriously assaulting a police officer, one count of seriously assaulting a police officer causing bodily harm, and two counts each of unlawful possession of a modified replica pistol.The Nambour man was charged with one count each of seriously assaulting a police officer by biting/spitting, obstructing police, and “authority required to possess explosives ”.The injured police officer has since been released from hospital and is recovering.
