Queensland Police have made a fresh plea to motorists to properly secure their vehicles, after investigations revealed offenders have been targeting one item in particular when breaking into cars.

On Wednesday, police revealed that offenders are targeting vehicle logbooks when breaking into cars as they contain significant information.

PIN codes, or VIN and registration numbers can also help offenders obtain a duplicate set of car keys. “Most people don’t realise the large amount of information that is contained in log/service books and that it can greatly assist an offender to steal a vehicle," he said in a statement. Queensland Police suspect young thieves also target residents living in affluent suburbs who own luxury cars in order to brag about it on social media.
