Qantas passengers stranded in Azerbaijan are expected to arrive at London’s Heathrow Airport early on Christmas morning after the airline deployed a recovery flight from Australia.
forced to make an emergency landing in AzerbaijanA Qantas spokesman said the Australian and seven foreign governments urgently processed flight path approvals for the one-off recovery flight.
“Looks like we’re not getting out of here until 10:30pm on Christmas Eve,” said passenger Nik Long, who is stuck in Baku. “We were [meant] to fly tonight, 23 December, to Sydney. The whole intent was to be back home for Christmas,” the man said. Qantas customers stuck in Baku have been put up in hotels, but some said they sat at the airport for seven hours before they were taken to a hotel.
