Q&A with CFL Commissioner Randy Ambroise
Sunrise presented by Vancouver Sun
Amar never intended, from Day 1, on being the face of the Lions, but I think he feels a sense of responsibility to speak for the Lions and making sure that people understand what the Lions want to be.What happens to the Lions and Argonauts when the World Cup comes to Canada? We’ve heard they could be displaced from anywhere between two months to two seasons …
A: We’ve taken this issue to the governors … and we have tremendous support from them that expansion is a huge priority. For practical reasons, 10 teams makes our league better. Ten teams makes our schedule better. Instead of having teams do three byes, we can do an 18-game season in 19 weeks, as opposed to 21 weeks. Using this year as an example, Grey Cup instead of being on November 20th in Regina, it would be on Nov. 6 in Regina.
He’s missed a good chunk of a season which makes competing for those postseason awards hard, but I think there’s gonna be a lot of people I think there’ll be a lot of people who will say that when he was playing that he was second to none.Article contentA: I think in many respects, we’re stronger. We’ve built a new foundation. We have a revenue sharing plan that the league hasn’t had for 40 years and I would argue itwas a missing element.
A: Our answer to that was to use fan feedback and consumer research. Our market research was designed at its core to understand ourselves. We understood, market by market, what are our fans identified with our brands, what they liked about it, what they didn’t like about it.
