Former America first lady lands in Rogers Arena for an intimate conversation focusing on hit memoir.
How popular is Michelle Obama? Well, put it this way, her current book tour events are held in sports arenas not bookshops. The former first lady of the United States of America will be here for Becoming: An Intimate Conversation with Michelle Obama on Thursday night at Rogers Arena. Currently The New York Times Best Sellers list topper, Obama’s memoir Becoming was released in late November and was Amazon’s top seller for all of 2018.
It felt a lot like piecing together a puzzle. I saw how seeds planted early on can bear real fruit — for better or worse — later in life. I saw that I wouldn’t be who I am without the influence of my parents and grandparents; without growing up in a community that was undergoing “white flight;” without being a working-class minority at a prestigious university.
Q: Most authors complain about the gruelling nature of the book tour schedule. How have you have felt on this tour? How does it compare to campaigning? In fact, I’m really trying to soak it up. The events are actually an energy boost for me — I love sitting down to chat in a new city with a new audience. We have a lot of fun. And when I’m travelling, I make sure to spend time with a group from the community — whether that’s sitting down with a book club of professional women or talking to a group of teenagers or college students doing good things.
