Watch live: PwC Australia CEO Kevin Burrowes has kicked off the seventh day of public hearings into the consulting sector with a lengthy apology.
Inquiry chairman and Liberal Senator Richard Colbeck says the Switkowski report into PwC showed just how “crap things were inside business”. “I went back this morning and I had to read through the committee’s report to refresh my mind on where we’d come and why,” Colbeck said. “Your acknowledgement of a breach of trust is more than appropriate, because that’s what we called our report: ‘A calculated breach of trust’.
“And your company, your business was deliberately using confidential information, to flip the process and to assist major corporations to avoid tax and to use that information to market it internationally. I just found that outrageously offensive to the Australian people but also as a member of the government that was then in power.” Colbeck then questioned how the company could say it has changed when it already had significant processes in place to prevent wrongdoing at the time.
