Ottawa goalie Max Donoso made several big saves (the Sting had 30 shots), especially in the final two periods.
“It’s tough to get a shutout at any time; to do it when you’re short staffed is a real indication of a buy-in by your team,” said 67’s coach Dave Cameron. “We played really well defensively, we didn’t turn many pucks over. Max made some really good saves, but it wasn’t like he was completely overwhelmed.”Article content
Asked about playing a team with a very good offence, led by Voit, Cameron said: “Just play the right way. Our system is geared to be good away from the puck, to be really strong defensively regardless of whether we’re playing Sarnia, which is a high-end team, or Peterborough, which is a high-end team. You’re just geared to stop the best teams.
Ottawa had a two-man advantage for 55 seconds near the midway point of the second period, but didn’t generate many chances. “How you feel after your wins is how you play,” said Cameron. “So, if you play really well and win 5-4, you feel pretty good. A win today takes on a bit more simply because we lost our last game . We not only lost, we didn’t play very good.”Article content
