The Russian President held a video conference with his Chinese counterpart where he voiced his expectation that the two would meet in person early in 2023 but President Xi Jinping insisted China would remain 'objective' on the Ukraine war.
The two leaders held a video conference broadcast on state television overnight on Friday where they both outlined their eagerness to increase their bilateral relations.
Mr Putin added the visit would:"demonstrate to the world the closeness of Russian-Chinese relations". During the conference Mr Putin spoke for around eight minutes about increasing collaboration, especially with military support between the two nations. “China is ready to strengthen strategic coordination with Russia adhere to being each other’s development opportunities and partners and strive to bring more benefits to our two peoples and inject more stability into the world,” he said.
Ukraine’s defence ministry released a statement accusing Russia of using the incident to provoke Belarus into taking military action.
