PSAC planning to organize strike votes for over 200 workers at IDRC

The collective agreement expired March 31, 2021. Talks in conjunction a conciliator broke down this week.

“The union has made several compromises during negotiations,” Silas said. “But the employer hasn’t shown the same movement and is continuing to push for concessions that would weaken the rights of these workers and the existing contract as well as reduce opportunities for career progression for a lot of these workers.”

“On May 29, a 21-day cooling-off period starts, which mean June 19 we’ll be in a legal strike position, and we’re going to be planning to set up strike votes during that period,” Silas said. “Our hope is to return to the table sometime in June, but with a strike mandate as a last chance for IDRC to meet us on our key priorities.

IDRC is responsible for funding research innovation alongside a lot of developing regions in the world as part of Canada’s foreign affairs and development efforts.Article content
