“Due to a demonstration, police are blocking Sparks and Elgin to prevent major disruptions to Winterlude activities,” the Ottawa Police Service posted on Twitter. “Winterlude attendees: please find an alternate entrance to the event.” On Sparks Street, protesters were met by a growing group of police, including a large contingent that had gathered in advance on MacLaren Street.Just before 5 p.m., Saturday police tweeted again that Sparks and Elgin had been reopened and there were no other temporary road closures in effect in the downtown area.
