These fraudsters target people looking for a partner and trick them into entering an online relationship.Recently, authorities have noticed scammers sending random text messages to their victims, reading “Where are you?” or “Where have you been?, sparking conversations and false relationships.
Eventually, the scammer asks for money to tackle a family emergency, or to fund a trip to visit the victim.“The scammer always makes excuses for not being able to meet in person, travel to see you, or use video conferencing to talk,” they continued. “Remember, if it seems too good to be true, it often is.”
