“They shouldn’t be holding back on flowing the necessary funds to help people through both this time of urgency, but also the months and possibly years in some cases this is going to take to get everything back to where it was.” Along with his stop at the Canadian Coast Guard College, where he took time to shake hands, sign autographs, and speak with cadets, Trudeau also had an opportunity to tour parts of Glace Bay that were hit hard by the storm on Saturday.
“It’s been a long time since I've been shocked to bump into a personality or person of any sort, nobody told me he was coming,” said Sean Casey. “I saw a crowd of people and I told myself that looked like Prime Minister Trudeau and he walked over and shook my hand to ensure me that everything would be OK.
More than 100 military personnel and Nova Scotia Power crew members have been stationed around CBRM to begin additional cleanup efforts in the wake of the storm.“We’ve also seen some serious devastation as people come together, lost roofs and lost homes and folks living in their garages, but at the same time, the strength of Canadians to be there for each other is evident in everything we see,” said Trudeau.
While power has been restored to more than 40 per cent of Cape Breton, many customers remained in the dark on Tuesday.
