Over 30,000 people have gathered at the Australian War Memorial this morning to participate in one of the most moving ceremonies of the year, honouring those who have served and fallen in conflicts across the globe.
With the iconic War Memorial as a backdrop, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese led the tributes, paying special attention to the Indigenous servicemen and women who, he said, have not always received the recognition they deserve.
He also poetically referenced the “atlas of grief” – the war cemeteries around the world which serve as the final resting place for countless ANZAC soldiers – as he honoured their sacrifices and the enduring impact of their service.
