“It was a tiny theatre. I could have reached out and touched Harris. What I was watching was essentially my story. Like Larson, when I was at university I had this idea to write a musical inspired by Puccini’s La Boheme in which Mimi is dying from AIDS. I wrote a couple of scenes and they were really terrible. His musical is so incredible.
“We allow ourselves a little more time these days. Today, everyone has a side hustle whether it’s being a personal trainer, selling real estate, teaching classes, and, yes, waiting tables or tending bar.”
