“There are valuable lessons to be learned from Canada’s responses to COVID-19 which will better prepare us to handle future public emergencies, and that learning and applying those lessons is in the best interests of us all,” Manning wroteThis advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below.The premier’s office says the panel has a budget of $2 million and Manning will be paid $253,000 for his role as its chairman.

Smith’s office said that other members of the panel will be recommended by the chairman for the premier’s final approval. Those members are expected to be named “in the coming months.”“There are valuable lessons we learned from the Alberta government’s response to the COVID-19 public health emergency. It’s important that we apply those lessons to strengthen our management of future public health crises, and the panel’s recommendations will be key in doing so,” Smith stated in a news release.

Manning says the panel will seek input from experts and the public around the question of “what changes should be made, if any, to the laws of Alberta to better equip the province to cope with future public health emergencies?”Article content
