President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Wednesday witnessed the ceremonial signing of the Implementing Rules and Regulations for the Magna Carta of Filipino Seafarers , marking a historic milestone in safeguarding the rights and welfare of the country’s maritime workforce.
President Marcos highlighted the significance of the IRR signing, emphasizing the administration’s dedication to safeguarding the rights of the country’s maritime workers. The IRR introduces several groundbreaking measures to protect seafarers. Among these is the establishment of One-Stop Shop Centers aimed at reducing bureaucratic hurdles and streamlining processes.
Employment conditions under the IRR will adhere to international standards, with clear guidelines on work hours, rest periods, and compensation. “These provisions are not just words on paper but a bulwark that our seafarers can rely on,” he said, urging agencies to issue all remaining guidelines and monitor compliance by stakeholders.
