Kabayan Party-list Rep. Ron Salo lauded President Marcos for his 'remarkable leadership and compassion' in facilitating the return of Mary Jane Veloso to the Philippines from Indonesia.
Kabayan Party-list Rep. Ron Salo said President Marcos 'demonstrated remarkable leadership and compassion' by helping attain Mary Jane Veloso 's return to the Philippines . “ President Marcos has demonstrated remarkable leadership and compassion by ensuring Mary Jane’s safe return. This decisive action reflects his commitment to addressing the hardships endured by our migrant workers,” Salo said in a statement Tuesday, Dec. 17.
The veteran congressman had this to say amid Veloso's imminent return to the country from Indonesia. Salo described Veloso as an emblematic figure of the dangers faced by overseas Filipino workers (OFWs). He said President Marcos has made this humanitarian effort a top priority. Salo said Veloso’s return is a powerful example of effective cooperation between government bodies, non-governmental organizations, and the press. This united front proves that such partnerships yield positive results, especially in cases impacting the lives and freedoms of Filipinos worldwide, he said. In addition, Salo expressed gratitude to Indonesia for its gracious response to the Philippine Government's request, underscoring the deep diplomatic ties and mutual respect between the two nations. Veloso is an alleged Filipino drug mule who was arrested in Indonesia in 2010. She was supposed to be executed but various appeals from Manila saved her life. Salo also conveyed his appreciation to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), led by Secretary Enrique Manalo, and the Philippine Embassy in Indonesia for their critical roles in enabling Veloso's retur
