New South Wales Premier Dominic Perrottet has announced a $200 million boost to the state’s flood response efforts.
A large portion will go to buying high clearance vehicles, with $12 million set aside for voluntary training.
Mr Perrottet called it a citizen’s army, saying “there were many members of the community that would have liked to have had the opportunity to just do some basic training … they might own a ‘tinnie’, they can go out and help with rescues”.
