The preliminary hearing will begin in October, more than a year after the murder of Taylor Marshall and a vicious stabbing attack on the boardwalk near Station Mall
Three weeks have been set aside for a preliminary hearing for Steven Jones, the man facing charges of murder and attempted murder in two high-profile incidents late last summer.
In a Sault Ste. Marie courtroom on Thursday, defence lawyer Rebecca Silver for Toronto-based Furgiuele Law recited the dates for the next stages of the case to Justice of the Peace Jill Morris. A preliminary hearing is held for indictable offences and offers the Crown an opportunity to prove it has the evidence to move forward with a trial. If not, the charges against an accused can be dropped.
