Not knowing what happens next is the worst part for Nicole Gray. She is one of thousands of Australians left in limbo after the collapse of Porter Davis.

The 31-year-old first-home buyer is one of thousands of Australians left in limbo after Victorian home builderShe and her partner Owen Lawrence, 38, have so far spent more than $200,000 on their proposed 25-square-metre home in Armstrong Creek, a residential area about 20 minutes’ drive south of Geelong. But more than a year after signing the contract, they have yet to move in.

Since the liquidation was announced on Friday, owners have reported on social media that their homes have been stripped of supplies.Ms Gray and her partner signed a contract for their home in December 2021 for just under $340,000. But they had to wait until May 2022 for builders to start work on the project. Today, about a quarter of the building work remains unfinished, while the interest rate on the couple’s mortgage has risen to 7.17 per cent.

“They said if anyone’s got any questions, they can be voiced at that webinar, but there’s like 1500 homes that are affected, so there’s going to be a lot of questions,” Ms Gray said.Another customer, 37-year-old general practitioner Syed, who asked for his surname not to be used, has so far given about $170,000 to Porter Davis and only has a concrete slab to show for it.

He and his family moved out of their now-demolished house in June last year, after Porter Davis advised them to do so because the company planned to lay down the slab for their new home in August or September. The family have been renting ever since, as the slab was only finished about three weeks ago.
