Port Adelaide's general manager Chris Davies says the club is '100 per cent supportive' of Dr Mark Fisher after the AFL issued a $100,000 fine for failing to put Aliir Aliir through concussion protocols.
Aliir Aliir clashed heads with teammate Lachie Jones during Saturday night’s match against the Adelaide Crows but Dr Fisher failed to administer a SCAT5 concussion test on Aliir before he was sent back onto the ground.
Dr Fisher has admitted he should have completed the SCAT5 Test on Aliir and Port Adelaide’s general manager Chris Davies said the club accepted the punishment and still fully supports its long time medico. The Port Adelaide general manager welcomed Dr Fisher admitting he would have completed a SCAT5 test on Aliir before allowing him back onto the field if he had his time again.
“Before that he was a doctor in the SAFL for 15 years, he’s been to numerous Olympic and Commonwealth Games, he is an eminently qualified doctor who we have great faith in, who in this circumstance has had an error of judgment.”The AFL’s fine will be split with $50,000 included in the club’s Football Department soft cap and the remaining amount to be paid outside the soft cap “unless a similar breach occurs prior to the end of the AFL and AFLW seasons next year”.
Aliir and Jones have been put through the concussion protocols and will be unavailable for this weekend’s match against the Geelong Cats.
