A train that was until last week housed in storage at the former Department of Mines building in Stellarton is moving to a new home. Locomotive 42 was removed on Feb. 7 in preparation for the building to be demolished and will be relocated to a new location. According to information posted by the Museum of Industry, Locomotive 42 was built at the Schenectady Locomotive Works in 1899 and was acquired by Dominion Coal in 1901.
According to information posted by the Museum of Industry, Locomotive 42 was built at the Schenectady Locomotive Works in 1899 and was acquired by Dominion Coal in 1901. In 1963 it was collected by a local railway enthusiast, and it was featured in a commercial for a local paint company. From 1973 to 1979 Locomotive 42 ran on the Cape Breton Steam Railway, a tourist line, between Glace Bay, Victoria Junction and Port Morien, with occasional special runs to Iona. Locomotive 42 was added to the Nova Scotia Museum collection in 1983.
