New revelations spark fresh calls for the embattled organization’s board to resign.
Calls for the resignation of leadership at Hockey Canada are once again being made from Parliament Hill, as a committee looking into the organization’s handling of sexual-assault allegations is set to resume.
“And the other thing it shows is that sexual violence has been treated as an insurance problem at Hockey Canada, instead of a systemic problem that needs to be addressed at the root of the problem.” In July, media reports said the organization had maintained a National Equity Fund to pay for uninsured liabilities, including sexual-assault claims, with the money coming from minor-hockey registration fees. On Monday, the Globe and Mail reported Hockey Canada had also created and directed fees into a second fund “for matters including but not limited to sexual abuse.”
