As regional carrier Rex faces an uncertain future several Australian politicians take aim at Qantas but an industry expert says Rex only has itself to blame.
What's next?With Rex Airlines facing an uncertain future after the ASX-listed company halted trade on Monday, politicians have taken aim at rival carriers Virgin Australia and more specifically Qantas for their behaviour in the aviation sector.The trading halt is expected to remain in place until Wednesday or when Rex makes an announcement to the ASX.
"Rex plays an incredible role in connecting the 7 million of us that don’t live in capital cities, to the rest of Australia.""You don't have to look too far to see the retribution that Qantas has enacted on Rex over time, when Rex has sought to take it up to them on their more profitable routes," she told 7.30.
"Trying to run one of the smallest airlines out of the air ... that's exactly what they're doing," Senator Lambie said. "The capital city market entry was too small, too timid perhaps and at the same time their regional presence is supported by aircraft which are really getting towards the end of their lifespan," Dr Douglas told 7.30.
