Addressing the rally, Hun Sen said the forthcoming election is a historical and important political event for the country, and that the CPP has approved its support for his re-election. He also promised the expansion of free health care for vulnerable people and free vocational and technical training for young people from poor and vulnerable families.

The CPP has ruled the Southeast Asian country since 1979. In the last general election in 2018, the CPP won all 125 seats in the National Assembly.
