The Ottawa Police Service said losses had totalled more than $12,000 in a span of just three days.
“In recent weeks, the fraud unit has received an increase in reports of fake ticket sales for the sold-out Taylor Swift concert, with some complainants losing upwards of $2,000,” the Ottawa Police Service said in a news release on Friday.“Ottawa residents have lost more than $12,000 to this scam in the last three days alone.”
Police say it’s vital to take the time to meet with private sellers and to inspect the goods you are buying. The seats soon went to the so-called “secondary markets,” and bloggers and other watchers said resellers such as StubHub were asking as much as $20,000 per ticket.
