Person became lost on the Voyageur Trail north of Sixth Line on Sunday
Police were able to locate a hiker who was lost on the Voyageur Trail north of Sixth Line after the individual placed a call to 911 on Sunday evening.
A news release from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service says that 911 communicators were able to pinpoint the hiker’s location using the what 3 words app. Members of the Emergency Services Unit attended the area and returned the individual to safety. “We want to remind everyone to use caution while exploring hiking trails and parks in and around our community,” the news release says. “Please, stay on marked and approved trails, only use trails suitable to your skill level and ensure someone knows where you are going and how long you plan to be there. Have a cell phone with you and ensure it is charged so you can call for help if you happen to get lost.
