Police said two men, aged 39 and 44, were shot to death in incident Sunday night
The Ontario Provincial Police have released the names of the victims from the shooting that occurred at Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory on June 18.
A news release from the OPP said the deceased victims have been identified as Lucius Jacko, 44, and Robert Wemigwans, 39, both of Wiikwemkoong. "On June 18, shortly after 11 p.m., members of the Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service, Manitoulin OPP and United Chiefs and Councils of Manitoulin Anishnaabe Police, responded to a shooting in Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory. Three people had sustained gunshot wounds. Two of the victims died as a result of their injuries. The third victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and later released," said the news release issued Thursday afternoon.
Police responded to the incident Sunday night and overnight into Monday morning and arrested three people, who are still in custody. The accused persons are:Terrence Recollet, 54, and Sherri Pitawanakwat , 33, both of Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory were charged with: The Manitoulin OPP Crime Unit is continuing the investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with assistance from the OPP North East Region Forensic Identification Services, United Chiefs Councils of Manitoulin Anishnaabe Police and Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service, and in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service, said the news release.
