A police officer involved in a viral video where he allegedly mishandled a senior citizen in a vehicular accident has been removed from his unit and placed in restrictive custody. The officer's unit and the National Police Commission will conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.

“Bilang agarang hakbang, ang nasabing personnel ay agad tinanggal sa kanyang unit at kasalukuyang inilagay sa restrictive custody,” the Rizal Police Provincial Office said in a statement Wednesday.

In a separate statement, the Southern Police District said that on Tuesday, a collision happened involving a vehicle driven by the police officer and another vehicle driven by the senior citizen in Barangay Bagumbayan. Both parties later went to a police station where the incident was documented and eventually settled amicably, according to the SPD.

“Notwithstanding the settlement of the vehicular accident, the SPD recognizes the public concern arising from the circulating video and the manner by which the senior citizen was allegedly handled during the incident,” the SPD said. Despite the settlement, the SPD said the Taguig City Police Station was directed to conduct a thorough investigation. The National Police Commission said the agency later in the afternoon will present the police officer involved in the viral video.
