Toronto police are looking for a suspect after several renters were defrauded in an apartment scam.
A 49-year-old man advertised various apartments he was not authorized to display or lease between November 2022 and February 2023,Police allege Cem Devrim Turetken has used multiple aliases and company names, including GTA Rentals and Smart Rental Property Management Inc., located in Sudbury. Police believe there might be more victims and are encouraging anyone who knows about the suspect's whereabouts to come forward.to be aware of"too good to be true" rent rates when hunting for apartments.
Police also said renters should not give a security deposit or rent payment before signing a lease and ensure the property isn't being listed elsewhere by double checking the address.
