Police are hunting the driver of a black Volkswagen Golf hatch following a road rage attack on a woman using crutches in Melbourne's east.

The 25-year-old victim was driving on Oravel Street in Balwyn North at about 6.30pm on Wednesday when a black VW Golf hatchback overtook her at high speed.

She pulled over in nearby Arama Street, where the driver approached her and began verbally abusing her. The 25-year-old had waited until the man returned to his car before she exited her vehicle using crutches. As she tried to crawl away, the driver continued to punch her in the face and head while verbally abusing her.
