'We take these reports very seriously'
Enhanced stop and search powers have been authorised in Preston amid reports of weapon wielding thugs.
Patrols will also be increased tonight as part of the police response. It comes after reports were made at around 6pm yesterday evening of people carrying weapons on Blackpool Road, Ribbleton. The increased powers mean police no longer need prior suspicion before carrying out a stop and search in the affected area. This covers a space bordered by Acregate Lane, Ribbelton Ave, Cromwell Road, Watling Street Road, Gamull Lane, Brockholes Brow, Preston New Road, New Hall Lane.
They added: "You will see an increased number of officers in the area. Please don’t be concerned. They are there for reassurance and to ensure reports are investigated thoroughly. Anyone with information about the incident on Blackpool Road is asked to call 101, quoting the log number 1281 of September 4, 2023."
