Heartbroken family and friends have held an emotional vigil to remember two siblings killed in a high-speed crash in Sydney's south-west last week.
Alina Kauffman, 24, had picked up her younger brother Ernesto Salazar, 15, on Friday night from a nearby Kmart store after finishing his shift at his first job when a Mercedes slammed into their Toyota Echo in Heckenberg about 9:20pm.
Dozens of loved ones came together on Sunday night at the crash site on Sadleir Avenue to honour the siblings who tragically had their lives cut short. Prior to the crash, police had launched Operation Katana to crack down on dangerous drivers, including speeding, driving under the influence and mobile phone use.
"I find it incomprehensible that there are still some drivers out there that make choices that put not only their own lives at risk, but also the lives of other road users, pedestrians and first responders," he said. Kokozian is alleged to have fled the scene after crashing his Mercedes, which had flipped onto its side after slamming into Alina's Toyota and a RAV4.
