Officers were called in just before 7 p.m. on Valentine’s Day after Al-Khalidi arrived at the General campus of The Ottawa Hospital with a gunshot wound. He died in hospital. Police said the next morning that the shooting had happened on Station Boulevard, but did not say how Al-Khalidi arrived at the hospital less than one kilometre away.

The homicide unit was seen focusing part of its investigation on a parking lot of the Blair Court Community townhouses, an Ottawa Community Housing complex on Station Road near Coronation Park.
