A door\u002Dto\u002Ddoor canvass led to a conversation that led to a suspect who now faces a handful of charges.

In an online post Friday, the police service provided details of the investigation that led to the arrest of a man responsible for the theft of presents from a vehicle belonging to an outreach manager with the Multifaith Housing Initiative.

The gifts, collected during the annual Toy Mountain drive, had been dropped off only the day before by officers with the police service’s Neighbourhood Resource Team and were slated to be delivered to children and their families in the Vanier neighbourhood. After the theft was reported, word spread in the community and donors quickly offered up a total of more than $5,000, which the outreach manager said was used to obtain multiple new gifts for children and larger grocery store gift cards for the families.Article content
