The Prime Minister has expressed his “respect” for the newly-coronated monarch but reiterated that Australians should be in the driving seat to decide who their head of state is.
Mr Albanese was among the 2,000 attendees at Westminster Abbey on Saturday, representing Australia alongside partner Jodie Hayden and Governor-General David Hurley.
“Coronation was a delightful and wonderful historic event… I was very proud to be there,” he told reporters in Perth on Monday. Mr Albanese decided to follow protocol and took the oath of allegiance to the King over the weekend despite his vocal support for Australia to become a republic.
