TO address the issue of leakages of subsidised fuel, more petrol stations that sell unsubsidised petrol and diesel will be increased at the country’s borders, says Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Among the areas are Rantau Panjang and Bukit Bunga in Kelantan, Tebedu, Ba’kalan and Lundu in Sarawak, Pengkalan Hulu in Perak as well as the Causeway and Second Link in Johor.

He added that the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry had enforced Ops Tiris for a period of six months with the main purpose of stopping the leakages of subsidised diesel that had caused a huge loss for the government and resulting in a lack of supplies to those who are truly in need of the fuel.

Ahmad Zahid said the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry had introduced the Rahmah initiative to assist the hardcore poor who are in the B10 income group with a salary below RM2,500 a month and those who are vulnerable that have little access to basic daily essentials. “In conjunction with Ramadan as well as Hari Raya Aidilfitiri, the Rahmah initiative will be expanded to several items, including textiles and other services such as insurance,” he said.
