Tanya Plibersek has made a plea for harmony to the Australian people amid a worsening conflict between Israel and Palestine, urging Muslim and Jewish diasporas to not ignite ethnic tensions on the pretext of the war and instead address their shared trauma as a unified community.
The senior Labor MP acknowledged that a rise in hostility along religious lines was a reflection of people who were “shocked” and “hurt” by the situation unfolding in the Middle East but said the general sentiment amongst the public was to deliver signals of peace to help de-escalate the war.
