Playoff-desperate teams should keep Leafs sharp via sunhornby
Wednesday was to be Toronto’s first action since clinching its post-season ticket for a seventh straight season. But the Lightning’s shutout of another division leader, the Carolina Hurricanes, kept them within five points of the Leafs with Keefe’s team holding two games in hand.
“We’re watching the scores in all of them,” Florida coach Paul Maurice assured. “So, you have more hope coming to the rink. “And the other option is what? If you lived life waking up every morning without belief or thinking bad things would happen, you just wouldn’t get to the NHL.”“We weren’t as good in front of their net as they were,” said Maurice, in respect to Leafs such as Auston Matthews who scored twice in that game.
The Leafs thought they were in that comfort zone in previous springs, only to lose six straight first rounds, a couple of those when they had command of the series versus weaker teams, at least on paper.“You’re always thinking about things like that, games in hand, doing the math,” Rielly said. “Ultimately it will probably come down to the wire . We’re not worried about that yet, we have an important game tonight and two on the weekend. We have our hands full.
