Artists' rendering of housing development on former Ben Bleecker building property in Belleville.

The owners of the almost 2 hectare former Ben Bleecker building property in west end Belleville hope to make a major housing development easier to get done. Spencer Hutchison of RFA Planning asked the city’s Planning Advisory Committee for a severance to split the property into two sections and some minor zoning changes.Hutchison explained the severance would allow 2 developers to be involved in construction at the same time bringing the project to completion more quickly.

The property owners, who now own the Arabella Retirement Residence in Belleville, are interested in building the apartment building but may wish to sell the townhouse sectionThe housing would be on the north end of the property while a commercial plaza is planned for the southern section. The Planning Advisory Committee made no decision on the request. Staff will come back with a recommendation report at a later date.
