Jemena has faced criticism from activists for spruiking so-called “renewable” gasFrank Tudor, the managing director of gas and electricity distribution giant Jemena, has abruptly stepped down citing family reasons.
Jemena – 60 per cent owned by State Grid of China and 40 per cent by Singapore Power – said long-time chief financial officer David Gillespie would become acting managing director from 1 September.The company owns gas networks servicing 1.5 million customers in NSW, the Eastern Gas Pipeline from Gippsland to the ACT, Sydney and regional NSW, and a Victorian electricity network servicing more than 370,000 customers in northern and western Melbourne.
Jemena has advocated for houses to maintain their gas connections as suppliers switch from methane to “renewable gas” and has been for offering NSW households a $500 to dump electric appliances for new gas ones in defiance of the direction of government policy.
